YELLOW CONFERENCE FEATURE

Recently, we had the good fortune of connecting with the wonderful women at Yellow Conference when they reached out to us for an interview on their blog! The Yellow community was thought up by Joanna Waterfall and exists to gather and equip creative women to use their passion, strengths, and influence to serve the greater good in the world. Yellow celebrated their 3rd annual conference this past August with over 500 creative entrepreneurial women in Los Angeles. 

One of the things we love about Yellow is the sense of community that they promote. It's easy to get caught up in competition and comparing our work to others, when we can instead be learning from and empowering other women. We feel so honored to be included in such a strong community of creative women. Check out a short excerpt from the interview below and visit the Yellow Blog to read more about our inspiration, living with intention, our commitment to sustainability, and more!

Where do you live and what brought you there?

Our family home is in Houston, Texas. The Vintage Round Top (RVT), our vacation home rental, is located only an hour and fifteen minutes away in the magical town of Round Top, Texas. Fate brought us there a little over five years ago. We took the scenic route home from visiting Smoot’s (my husband) mom and stumbled upon an open house in Round Top. The open house realtor educated us on the need for rental property in the area. We thought buying a house in Round Top was out of the question until we learned they can be rented during the bi-annual world famous Antique Fair that attracts over 125,000 people per year to this tiny town of 90 permanent residents.

Do you have a favorite quote or motto that you live by?

Yes, “Live with Intention!” We were given this advice right before we stopped at the Open House we mentioned earlier. In fact, that’s why we stopped. We thought, let’s go inside and get the “mojo” going for when we’d be in a position to purchase a second home in the country. Had we not made that stop, we wouldn’t have been told about the rental property business and wouldn’t be answering your questions today. So, our advice is to take action oriented steps towards your goals and desires. Ours was simply to find something creative to do together. And boy, did we ever find that!

We agree, but have worked very hard to make The Vintage Round Top as comfortable as being in your own home. That's one of our missions and look for small and big ways to make that happen for our guests. 

This quote was hand lettered by Dionne from Nib & Pixel for the beautiful pop up shop of Holly Mathis Interiors. We have lots more to share about this inspiring space, but wanted to share this quote first for our Monday Words To Live By series.  

RiSE MOJAVE

Have you heard of the RiSE Festival? We first learned about it through our friend, Tiffany Mitchell from Offbeat & Inspired. Since then, it's popped up on our feeds in a few other places and definitely has us intrigued! There is still time to get your tickets and make travel plans for the October 7 event. It takes place about 30 miles from Las Vegas. We can't make it this time, but it is definitely on our bucket list!

The evening begins with live music by handpicked local artists that set the ambiance for you to relax, eat, drink, and be with friends as you prepare for your lantern release. You’ll personalize your lantern with a message, a prayer, a dream or a resolution.

After sunset we will light our lanterns together and release them skyward. Your lantern means something unique to you. But together they give a collective voice to our dreams and challenges in a beautiful display—and one unforgettable evening.
